Spearmint Rhino wins court case, continues to operate

The Glasgow city licensing board have been told by three senior judges that they were wrong to deny famous lap dancing club Spearmint Rhino a licence to sell alcohol. The board originally refused the club a licence due to the fact that dancers inside were performing completely nude, contrary to city law. The judges decided that the board had gone too far, and urged them to reconsider. Scottish escorts are happy with this decision and feel a strip club should do what it says on the tin.

Bosses of the club say that they are aware of the rules, however the girls in question had recently come from Edinburgh; a city which has different licensing rules when it comes to exotic dancing. It was also suggested that two promotion girls had also exposed their nether regions while handing out fliers.

The club has since been renamed as Platinum Lace and continues to operate as usual. The main point of contention is that the licensing board only have the power to decide whether a premises is allowed to serve alcohol or not. They do not have the power to sanction businesses on such things as exotic dancing and stripping.

One of the judges, Lord Eassie, acknowledged that the board’s intentions may have been good, but reaffirmed the point that they did not have the power to deny a business a licence for these reasons. The licensing board have commented that they are considering the terms of the decision, and will release a further statement in the future.

This is an ongoing disagreement with a licence originally refused in 2009. However, with ongoing court cases, the club has continued to operate as normal. It remains to be seen what the final outcome of this whole situation will be.
